GÉANT and RedCLARA, on behalf of the BELLA (Building the Europe Link to Latin America) Consortium, are delighted to announce that EllaLink and Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) have finalised agreements for the construction of the EllaLink submarine fibre optic cable system that will provide direct connectivity between Europe and Latin America. Through the agreement with EllaLink, BELLA will receive spectrum on the new submarine cable, to support research and education networking between the two continents, for the lifetime of the system.

The Ministry of Science, Technology, Higher and Professional Technician Education of Mozambique presented to RNP a recognition for its contribution to the growth of the Mozambican academic network (MoRENet). The thanks took place during MoRENet's first annual conference, held on 10 and 11/12 in Maputo.

The National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) of the entire continent will meet on January 23 and 24, 2019, at the 1st Edition of the Americas Summit of Academic Network.

In 2018, users of the collaboration tools of the Colombian advanced network, RENATA, generated more than 41,737 interactions through the services of VC Espresso, eNVIO, Funds and Partners, RENATA in Live and RENATA Videoconference. The network trained 1,046 members in a total of 118 sessions, to 60 of its affiliated institutions, who, thanks to the appropriation plan, learned about the potential and opportunities of the advanced network and experienced the use of the tools del Colaboratorio, the RENATA and RedCLARA platform for remotely interacting in real time with the quality, security and speed of the advanced technology network.

LACNIC invites the Internet community to submit proposals for presentations to be included on the FTL (LACNIC Technical Forum) agenda for LACNIC 31, the upcoming event to be held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from May 6 to 10, 2019.

The Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (RedCLARA), together with its member networks RAU (Uruguay), RedCUDI (Mexico), RNP (Brazil), RENATA (Colombia) and REUNA (Chile) received, on November 20, in the framework of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Leonardo Journal, in Montevideo, Uruguay, the prize "e-Cultura 2018" in the category "Institutional Collaboration".
