On July 8 and 9, 2013, Cartagena of Indias (Colombia) will host the Third Conference of Information and Communication Technologies Directors from higher education institutions. People involved in ICT management in Latin American universities are invited to submit proposals related to this topic. The deadline to submit the material is April 15th, 2013.

On December 20 RedCLARA activated the ground link of 1 Gbit/s Ethernet installed between San Salvador (El Salvador) and San Jose (Costa Rica), increasing the backbone capacity in the section that runs between San Jose - Managua - San Salvador to 1 Giga and leaving a node in Nicaragua to which the country will be able to connect as soon as it decides to become a RedCLARA member.
Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina, Lino Barañao, recognized the agreement to develop regional strategies in the area of institutional repositories as a first step in the profound change that has to face Latin America and the Caribbean in the coordination of scientific and technological policies. On November 29, 2012, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the scientific authorities of Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and El Salvador signed the creation of "LaReferencia", a project to develop a federated network of institutional repositories of scientific publications for storing, sharing and giving visibility to the scientific production of Latin America.
