International School of Young Astronomers starts its activities in Colombia
The opening class of 41st edition of the International School of Young Astronomers (YSIA2018) was held last July 8, at the Industrial University of Santander, in Colombia. The School brings together experts and students of countries such as Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico, United States, Italy, Peru, Honduras and Colombia.
ISYA2018 is organized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters (NASL) and an alliance formed by the universities of Andes, Antioquia, ECCI, Pereira Technological University, the Industrial University of Santander and the National University, all from Colombia.
The objective of the School is to train young students from Latin America and the Caribbean (especially those from the Andean regions) in the areas of Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics. The opening ceremony was attended by IAU and NASL Program Director Kam Ching Leung, the Deputy Director Itziar Aretxaga, UIS Physics School Professor and ISYA2018 Local Director, Luis Alberto Núñez, among others. Classes for the 41st YSIA will run until July 28th.
