August 14, 14:00 GMT: "One Health: Lessons and Experiences in Latin America and the Caribbean" RUTE-AL Webinar

The integrated approach that recognizes the connection between human, animal, plant, and environmental health to provide more comprehensive and effective solutions, known as One Health, will be the focus of the next webinar hosted by the Latin American Telemedicine University Network (RUTE-AL). This event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 14, at 14:00 GMT (8:00 am Mexico, 9:00 am Ecuador/Colombia, 10:00 am Chile, 11:00 am Brazil/Uruguay).

Titled "One Health: Lessons and Experiences in Latin America and the Caribbean", the webinar will be moderated by Dr. María Elena Ceballos, Coordinator of the Health Community at CUDI, and will feature expert speakers including Dr. Mercy J. Borbor Cordova, an oceanographer with a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the State University of New York and a professor at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Ecuador, and Carlos Barboza, a Geomatics Specialist and a member of the Geomatics Team for the Ministry of Health of Uruguay.

The discussion will cover topics such as the integrative approach to climate and early warnings of vector-borne diseases, as well as the challenges of applying One Health to address emerging and re-emerging issues like pandemics, climate change, and other health threats.

The 2024 RUTE-AL webinar series aims not only to generate knowledge but also to encourage the development of a permanent collaboration network on health and telemedicine topics across Latin America and the Caribbean. The series began in April and will run through November, with support from RedCLARA and the National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) that are part of it.
