29 September: Take part in the debate on the skills that will drive digital health in Latin America and the Caribbean

This event, organised by the Latin American and Caribbean University Telemedicine Network (RUTE-ALC), will explore how to integrate digital skills into the education of healthcare professionals in order to make full use of technologies such as artificial intelligence, telehealth and data analytics.

Digital transformation is changing the way healthcare services are delivered, clinical data is managed and healthcare professionals are trained. However, for technologies such as artificial intelligence, telehealth and data analytics to have a real impact on healthcare systems, it is necessary to strengthen the human capacities that will enable their effective adoption. This will be the central theme of the next session of RUTE-ALC’s Special Interest Group on Digital Competences, to be held on 29 September 2026.

Entitled “Defining digital competences and how to integrate them into the curriculum for the training of healthcare professionals”, the meeting will bring together specialists from across the region to analyse how to systematically incorporate digital competences into educational processes, thereby contributing to the development of a workforce prepared for the challenges of digital health in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The session will be moderated by Grace Dal Sasso (UFSC/SBIS) and will feature presentations by Heimar F. Marin (UNIFESP/IAHSi) and Antonio Carlos Onofre de Lira (SBIS/USCS), who will share their experiences and reflections on training professionals capable of harnessing the potential of digital technologies to improve healthcare.

This event forms part of the regional collaboration efforts driven by the digital health community in Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting the exchange of knowledge, joint work and capacity-building to advance towards more connected, innovative and inclusive health systems.
